Rules for LC Solvents

This site is best rendered using a standards-compliant browser such as Firefox. Microsoft Internet Explorer, while widely used, is not very compliant with web standards and does a mediocre job of displaying this site. If something doesn't look good, change your browser.

Solvents for LCMS experiments must be compatible with the mass spectrometer. (This is also true for any mobile phase modifier you might wish to use.) Solvents for LCMS should also be compatible with the ionization method to be used.

Safe solvents include water, acetonitrile, methanol. Other solvents must be approved by the MS facility manager prior to use.

Safe mobile phase modifiers:

Forbidden mobile phase components:

Mobile phases containing potentially deleterious materials shall not be used in the LC-MS instrumentation. Should you have any questions on what may or may not be used, please contact the MS facility manager.
