University of Missouri ACS Local Section

Post Baccalaureate Travel Award

The Award

The Post Baccalaureate Travel Award will provide two members of the local ACS section, who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a chemistry related field, with $250 to be used towards attending a regional or national chemical conference of the American Chemical Society (or sponsored in part by the ACS). The total amount available is $500. Individuals who have earned a bachelors degree in another discipline, but are currently working in a chemistry related discipline, are also eligible. Faculty at research extensive universities, such as the University of Missouri-Columbia, are not eligible.

Application and Selection Criteria

To apply for the Post Baccalaureate Travel Award, each person should submit the following items to the current chair of the MU-Local section:

Selection criteria will include, but are not limited to, the novelty and the quality of the research, educational benefits to the community and the availabilty of matching funds. Preference may be given to individuals seeking funds to travel to national meetings and to individuals giving oral presentations (consideration will be given to the fact that oral presentation is not an option in certain divisions). Previous activities at the local or regional level will be considered a plus.

*If the applicant is not a current ACS member, the section will sponsor the applicant for ACS membership prior to dispensing the award.

Applications must be received by November 1 each year. The recipient(s) of the award(s) will be determined by November 15. The selection will be made by the officers of the MU-Local section.

The award(s) is(are) made each academic year. The applicant may request funds as reimbursement of the costs of attending a conference in the winter semester (e.g. ACS Spring Meeting) or the applicant may request funds for an event planned for the Fall Semester (e.g. ACS Fall Meeting, ACS Regional Meeting).
